PICT:0810049/IV (c)/1 Textile material in rope or open width form is washed in a machine comprising a steeping chamber 3, a series of J-shoots 2 with wringing and feed rollers 10, 11, between them, and washing liquid passing through all the shoots in countercurrent. Two series of machines may be arranged side by side to form a double row installation, the material being folded into and moving from a J-shoot on one side to a J-shoot on the other side and so progressing through both machines, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The main and feed rollers 10, 11 are acted upon by levers 12 moved by pressure cylinder and piston arrangements 13, and the speed of the material and/or the admission of fresh water may be regulated.
