[Also in Group XXX] A pinch valve controlling the flow of powdered or granular material from shoots, cyclones, &c., comprises a tubular casing 1, Fig. 2, clamping between its end flanges 7, 8 and ring flanges 2, 3, the flanged ends of a moulded rubber sleeve 4 deformable by rotation of curved metal arms 9, 10, Fig. 3, mounted on trunnions, by means of gear-wheels 15, 16. The gear-wheel 15 has a stub-shaft 23 carrying an operating lever (not shown), provided with a spring-loaded pawl engageable with a ratchet-wheel to retain the sleeve in any set position. A flap valve on the casing opens inwardly to allow entry of air between the casing and sleeve when the sleeve is closed and exhaustion therefrom when the sleeve is opened.
