Class 119 In a barrel mounting for a smallarm, the barrel 1 is provided with recesses 2 forming a dovetailed lug 3 on which is mounted a slide block 7 spring mounted within the forestock 4 so as to provide variable resilient contact pressure between the lug 3 and block 7 in a direction vertical to the axis of the barrel. The block 7 is formed as a cylindrical nut mounted in a recess 12 in the forestock 4 and receives a screw 10 guided by a sleeve 11 provided at its outer end with an external flange 13 which is countersunk in a corresponding recess in the bearing flange 5 of the front sling eye 6. The inner end of the sleeves 11 has an internal flange 14 between which and the head of the screw 10 is inserted a spring 15 which produces a resilient contact pressure of the nut 7 against the lug 3 of the barrel, which may be varied by adjusting the screw 10 in the nut 7. A flat recess 9 in the barrel permits the nut 7 to be engaged with the lug 3.
