[Also in Group XXII] A two-speed gear, particularly suitable for a portable electric hand drill, comprises a helical driving pinion 12 engaging the larger of a pair of sliding gears 15, 16 fast together, which are alternatively engaged with gears 10, 11 fixed on the driven shaft. The change of mesh is effected by a sliding glut 17 co-operating with the larger gear 15 and fast with a pin 19 passing through a slot 20 in the casing 3 and a radial slot 24 in a sealing disc 23 secured to an actuating- knob 21. The disc 23 seals the slot 20 and a head 25 on the pin 19 seals the slot 24 in disc 23.
