Improvements relating to paddles for boat and like boat propulsion

A paddle comprises a handle component 2 connected to a paddle component 4 by a hinge or flexible connections 5 whereby the two components are rigid with one another during the power stroke and the paddle component folds backwards in relation to the handle component on the idle stroke. In Figs. 5, 7 the paddle component comprises sections or wings 4b. In Figs. 10, 11 the paddle component comprises sections 4 with a flexible backing 6. A cord 7 is attached to the handle at 12 and has hand grips 9 for increasing the power applied to the paddle. The cord 7 may be replaced by a rigid member and two or more paddles may be connected by such members. Fig. 14 shows a paddle supported in a rowlock or eye 15 on the stem of the craft 3. The direction of oscillation of the paddle may be varied for steering and for propelling the craft in the opposite direction. Additional pulling power may be applied at 12 and 13.
