928,035. Fishing tackle. J. CHAPPELL. Sept. 19, 1961 [Oct. 29, 1960], No. 37229/60. Class 48. [Also in Group XXIII] A method of attaching a hook to a line comprises gripping the shank of the hook in a pair of jaw members 17, anchoring one end of the line to a tongue 27 on one of the jaw members 17, gripping the hook and an intermediate part of the line between finger and thumb with the line passing tautly from the tongue 27 through a slot 23 on a slidable clamp 22 holding the jaw members together, passing the free end of the line between the finger and thumb, winding a portion of the loop so formed around the shank to bind the line thereto, releasing the shank from the jaws and pulling the loop through the binding coils to lock the line to the shank. The pair of jaw members 17 are loosely connected by a rivet 20 and are urged apart by a coil spring 24 or by a blade spring. The jaw members 17 have steel jaws 16 riveted thereto and disposed so that when the jaws 16 are pressed together the jaw members 17 diverge slightly towards the jaws 16. The lower jaw 16 has a single V groove or a pair of grooves of different sizes.
