991,726. Railway vehicles for transporting road vehicles. R. TALBOT. June 1, 1961 [June 7, 1960], No. 19773/61. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle 1, Figs. 1, 2 and 3, for transporting road vehicles, e.g. a trailer 3, comprises two longitudinal frame members 10 interconnecting fixed end platforms 9, and a loading platform 4 normally secured at its ends between the members 10 by locking means 7, the platform being depressible against a spring 6 on a control support 5, on release of the appropriate locking means, to either of the positions shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Each locking means comprises a spring-urged pin engaging, selectively, holes in the longitudinal members 10 under the control of a manually operable linkage, as described with reference to Figs. 15 and 16 (not shown). Instead of the platform 4 being a single integral member it may be in two sections 4a, 4b, as shown in Fig. 6, wherein each end of each section is spring-supported. Alternatively, the sections of the platform may extend longitudinally on each side of a centre fixed longitudinal frame member. In a further form the longitudinal members 10 may be dispensed with and the longitudinal platform sections then have upswept outer edges. Moreover these longitudinal sections may each be in two separate sections
