[Also in Group XXXVI] A method of applying connecting wires to at least two spaced electrodes applied to a body 1 includes the steps of locating a first wire 4 in the space between the electrodes 2 and 3 in a manner such that the ends of the wires extend beyond each electrode, locating a second wire 6 having a tensile strength lower than that of the first wire on the surface of the electrodes in a manner such that the space between the electrodes is traversed by the second wire and the ends thereof extend beyond each of the electrodes, of securing the second wire to the surface of each electrode, and of pressing the first wire against the second wire to an extent such that the second wire is severed. A body of semi-conductor material 1 has deposited thereon electrodes 2 and 3. A first wire 4 is located between the electrodes and is tensioned by a frame 5. A second wire 6 is held against the electrodes 2 and 3 by punches 7 and 8 and is welded to the electrodes by heat and pressure and the second wire 6 is then broken by the first wire 4 by lifting the frame 5 while holding the first wire by the punches 7 and 8.
