Fuel is fed to the pivotally-bladed rotor 2 for projection into a furnace, by means of pushing or agitating plates 7, 11, which reciprocate in opposite phase over the respective sides 5, 6 of the hopper. The plates are operated from shaft 10 through cranks 8, 9 and 12, 13, respectively. Sliding gate 15 is operated by screw 21 reciprocated by nut 23 rotated manually by chain 24.
