[Also in Group XXVIII] An inhaler comprises a tubular container for gas under pressure and an associated flow control valve and has such dimensions that it can serve as a walking stick. The gas container which is capable of delivering 80-90 litres of low-pressure oxygen is made from a 3 foot length of 1-1¢ inch steel tubing and preferably tapers towards the base which is closed by a brass insert 2 and has a rubber ferrule 3. At the top a bored handle is threaded in a brass insert 4. A filter unit comprising a perforated tube 12 and a sintered plug 13 is supported in the container by the handle. The handle also includes a unit 10 comprising the flow control valve and/or an adjustable gas pressure regulator, to enable gas to be supplied to the user at 2-4 litres per minute. A face mask may be housed in the handle.
