906,021. Magnetron oscillators. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 23, 1959 [April 25, 1958], No. 13231/58. Class 39 (1). A magnetron oscillator comprises a reentrant circuit which has a first part where the phase velocity of the principal space harmonic component of the wave is in the same direction as the direction in which the electron stream circulates and a second part where the phase velocity is in the opposite direction. The total phase change around the circuit is constant and the frequency of the oscillations is varied by varying the anode voltage. Desirably, the two parts of the circuit have the same characteristic impedance. In Fig. 2 inductive coupling between segments is provided by strapping in the lower half of the magnetron. In the upper half, capacity couplings are provided by segmental plates (not shown) on either side of insulating plates provided top and bottom of the magnetron as described in Specification 863,992. In Fig. 4, the anode block is laminated and strapping is provided in the lower half. In the upper half, the cavities 13 in adjacent laminations have portions displaced in opposite directions so as to provide overlapping portions 15 where there is mutual inductive coupling, in the manner described in Specification 874,896.
