Apparatus for the carriage-return and line-spacing operations in sheet-teleprinters

[Also in Group XL (b)] Apparatus for effecting the carriage-return and line-feed operations in page-printing teleprinters in which the two operations are brought about by two successive and identical code combinations of impulses, the carriage-return function and the line-feed function are effected in response to the reception of the first of said identical code combinations, the line-feed movement covering only a predetermined fraction of the full interlinear spacing, and the immediately subsequent and identical impulse combination brings about a further line-feed operation providing the remaining distance necessary to complete the full interlinear space. When the first of the two impulse combinations is received, the appropriate selector bar operates in conjunction with a function bar 1 so that the latter bar is moved to the left by means operated subsequent to the reception of each code combination. A slot in the bar 1 engages a pin 2 secured to a member 3 operatively connected to mechanism for effecting the line-feed movement. The pin 2 also engages the arm of a pivoted member 4 which is rotated to actuate the carriage return mechanism and is latched by a pivoted detent 5. The bar 1 and member 3 are, subsequent to their operation, restored to the positions shown, and in response to the second of the successive identical code combinations the bar 1 is again moved to the left, but operates solely the member 3 which controls a further line-feed operation to complete the full interlinear spacing. The latched rotatable member 4 is not released until a character or a symbol has been printed.
