A heat curable composition of matter comprises an ethoxyline resin, from 0,5 to 10 weight per cent based on the resin of a BF3 complex as defined below, and from about 1 to 3 weight per cent based on the resin of a triaryl phosphite. Ethoxyline resins are glycidyl polyethers obtained, for example, by reacting a polyhydric alcohol or phenol with epichlorhydrin in an alkaline medium. By triaryl phosphite is intended those aromatic phosphites free of reactive groups. Suitable are triphenyl, diphenyl 2, 4-diethylphenyl, phenyl ethylphenyl 2, 4-diethylphenyl, bis(2, 4-dimethyl phenyl) phenyl and bis-(p-ethylphenyl) naphthyl phosphites. The BF3 complexes are those formed with phenols, ethers or organic nitrogen compounds such as amines (aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic) and amides which do not have a negative group attached to the nitrogen atom, a number of such compounds being listed. To facilitate mixing the ingredients thinners such as butyl glycidyl ether may be added. In examples the ethoxyline resin used is prepared by the reaction of 10 mols. of epichlorhydrin with one mol. of bisphenol A in the presence of two mols. of sodium hydroxide. Portions are mixed with triphenyl phosphite and a BF3-monoethylamine complex in various amounts. The mixtures are poured into moulds and cured by heating. Values of the heat distortion temperature of the products, and also of those using no phosphite and 4% phosphite, respectively, are tabulated.
