A protector camprises a base part 10 and an anchor part 11 connected together in spaced apart relation by one or more separate connecting members such as countersunk screws 12 which screw into the anchor part 11. A nut (not shown) on one of the screws 12 holds the base part 10 in position. The protector may be embedded in a sole or heel of India rubber, synthetic rubber or other synthetic material during the moulding of the sole or heel.
