An electrode 9 is connected to a D.C. voltage, and spray guns 10 (see Group XXIX) are directed towards the article. Each gun Fig. 2 has a tube 11 and an outlet 13 where air atomized spray is deflected at right angles to the gun axis, and the spray is then driven forwardly by air issuing from the front of a surrounding tube 15. In a modified arrangement the electrode 9 is omitted and the gun, Fig. 4, is connected to a high voltage source; the air tube 115 has a sharp electron emitting edge 119, and a sharp edged concentric tubular member 118 is provided for electron emission.
