Improvements in or relating to the lamination of transparent coverings onto copy sheets

A method of laminating a transparent covering to a copy sheet comprises feeding a sheet of transparent covering material having an adhesive coating and the copy sheet between co-operating elements of a duplicating machine, the copy sheet having been moistened with a solvent for the adhesive coating by means of a moistening device of the duplicating machine, and pressing the copy sheet and the covering sheet together by means of the printing elements of the duplicating machine. Preferably the adhesive is a material soluble in alcohol. Both the adhesive coating and the copy sheet may be moistened before pressing together. The transparent sheet may include a coloured substance absorbent of ultra-violet light. In one example of a suitable duplicating machine, a printed copy sheet 26 is supported by a feed table 27 and is fed via rollers 6, 9 to a guide plate 8 where its leading end engages the leading end of the covering sheet 37 supported by feed table 32. A felt member 11 mounted on a carrier member 12 which dips into the solvent 33, is pressed against roller 9 which moistens the copy sheet 26. Movement of the copy sheet by the rollers causes it and the covering sheet 37 to move to the bight between the printing elements 1 and 4, where the sheets are laminated together. In an alternative embodiment, the covering sheet may be mounted on the printing drum 1. The felt member 11 is extended to contact the printing drum so that both the covering sheet and the copy sheet are moistened by the solvent. Lamination may also be effected with a flat bed duplicating machine (Fig. 5, not shown).
