In pulse-echo distance measuring apparatus, e.g. radar or ultrasonic echo sounding, spurious pulses are prevented from appearing in the output of the echo channel by utilizing counting apparatus as described in the parent Specification, the pulses B 1 , B 2 therein being formed in each pulse repetition period at the instants corresponding to the end of a selected distance range and to the instant of pulse energy transmission respectively, Fig. 4 (not shown). The invention may be applied to apparatus additionally affording echo direction by means of spaced receptors, the outputs of which are each processed such that final outputs are each free from spurious pulses, Fig. 9 (not shown).
