Photographic light-sensitive materials comprise an antihalation or filter layer containing a triarylmethane dye of the formula: wherein A is an aryl or substituted aryl group, R 1 is an alkoxy group and R 2 is an aryl or substituted aryl group. The aryl group R 2 may contain a hydroxyl substituent, and the group R 1 may be methoxy. The dyestuffs are described in Specification 961, 466. In the examples, anti-halation layers are prepared by dispersing the dyes in a copolymer of methyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride or the condensation product of p-dimethylol-cresol and p-hydroxybenzoic acid.
