A method of loading a semi-trailer, having a bogie 8 which is displaceable and tiltable relative to the bodywork 7, on to a flat railway truck with a horizontally pivoted floor, wherein the bogie is displaced towards the rear end of the semi-trailer, the floor of the truck lowered by pivoting at 4, the semi-trailer placed on the truck with its bogie in the well formed by the lowered floor, Fig. 1 (not shown), the bodywork 7 of the semi-trailer tilted to take up a horizontal position, Fig. 2, and then displaced horizontally with respect to the bogie until it is disposed centrally between the ends of the truck. The semi-trailer has wheels arranged in pairs at each end of each axle, each pair being interconnected by a cross-member 10 which acts as a guide wheel and can roll on rails 6a-6b-6c fixed to the truck. The semi-trailer is held rigid with the truck by coacting parts 12 and 13. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the bodywork 7 is adapted to move with respect to the bogie 8 by means of the bodywork being provided with a fixed member 16 which is slidable with respect to a flange 15 fixed to the bogie, a locking bolt 17 mounted in the flange 15 engaging in any of a series of apertures 20 provided in member 16. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the longerons 23 of the bodywork 7 can roll on a wheel 24 carried on an axle 25 supported by the bogie and when the wheel is in its lowest position, Fig. 6, teeth 26-27 provided on the bodywork and bogie respectively engage and prevent relative movement.
