摘要
Solid mixtures of urea and a quaternary ammonium compound having at least one aliphatic C8 group, especially a C8 to C22 hydrocarbon and two alkyl groups each having a C1 to C20 chains together with a further C1 to C4 alkyl, or arylalkyl, alkylaryl, aryl, alicyclic or heterocyclic group, wherein one of the four groups constituting the quaternary ammonium group may carry a further quaternary ammonium group, are made by mixing the quaternary ammonium compound, optionally as a solution, to a melt or a solution, especially aqueous, of urea and recovering the solid mixture from said melt or solution, e.g. by evaporation, and preferably converting the dry melt into a particulate or prill form. 5 to 20% of quaternary per weight of urea is the preferred amount. In the embodiment an aqueous alcoholic solution of the quaternary, as obtained may be fed to the final urea concentration in a typical urea synthesis plant stream which thereafter is fed to prilling equipment. The resulting prills may subsequently be tabulated. Examples of typical mono quaternaries include N-fatty dimethyl ammonium e.g. halides, N,N-di fatty dimethyl ammonium e.g. methosulphates, N,N,N,-trifatty methyl ammonium e.g. nitrites, N-fatty methyl benzyl ammonium e.g. sulphates, N,N-difatty methyl allyl benzyl ammonium e.g. chlorides, N-fatty dimethyl furfuryl ammonium chlorides. Examples of diquaternaries are also given.ALSO:Biocidal, e.g. bacteriocidal compositions, made by a novel process (see Division C2) comprise a solid mixture of urea and a quaternary ammonium compound of the general formula FORM:0977099/A5-A6/1 where R1 is a C8 to C22 aliphatic hydrocarbon group, R2, R3 are each a C1 to C22 alkyl group and R4 is a C1 to C4 alkyl group, aralkyl, alkaryl, aryl groups or an alicyclic or hetero cyclic group, and one of R1 to R4 may carry a further quaternary amino group, and X- as a mono or polyvalent anion. The composition preferably contains 5 to 20% by weight of quaternary based on the weight of urea and may be hard, dry, free-flowing particulate or prill form. Specific quaternary ammonium ions are exemplified together with halide, sulphate, nitrite, nitrate, metho or ethosulphate radicles. Other ingredients may be incorporated for specific end use of the products.
