1,063,057. Photo-electric centrifuge monitoring. R.S. ALM. July 3, 1964 [July 6, 1963], No. 27640/64. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G2] A diaphragm is provided with an arcuate s@t aperture 2 having one of its longitudinal borders defined by a stack of independently movable flat elements 3, this diaphragm being used in conjunction with a rotatable diaphragm having a radial slit 11 in order to determine the distribution of a liquid in a centrifuge 12 rotating with the second diaphragm. A beam of light is passed through the moving aperture defined by the two diaphragms and then through the centrifuge to a photo-cell and oscilloscope. When the centrifuge is empty, any irregularities in the light permeability of the vessel are compensated for by moving the elements 3 into or out of the light path along the length of the slit 2 so as to produce a zero reading on the oscilloscope over the whole height of the centrifuge.
