An X-ray protective garment, e.g. a short coat or coatee, is constructed of lead-loaded rubber sheet which is lined inside and outside with proofed nylon. The lining may be a nylon fabric proofed on the side facing the rubber with a coating of impervious material such as a polyurethane and may be secured to the rubber sheet at its edges by stitching or by an adhesive. The garment may be sleeveless and may have a front opening provided with a touch and close fastening.
