1,112,082. Refrigeration. J. SAINSBURY Ltd., and BYALEX CO. Ltd. 6 Nov., 1964 [6 Aug., 1963; 13 Aug., 1963; 24 Sept., 1963], Nos. 57465/67, 57466/67 and 57467/67. Divided out of 1,112,081. Heading F4H. A heat-insulating structure, e.g. for forming the walls of cold storage compartments, includes strips of a resilient, readily compressible and flexible foamed material located in a compressed condition at locations between parts of the structure such as frame members, panels, or other rigid pieces to militate against the formation of, or increase in size of, gaps between parts. Heat-insulating panels or blocks may be assembled in frame structures similar to those described in Specifications 961,932 and 961,931, with the flexible foamed strips between its panels and the frame members. Alternatively, successive blocks 14 (Fig. 6) may be abutted against strips 15a of the flexible foamed material, e.g. sponge rubber or foamed polyurethane, between which a bracing web 23 is located. Sections 24 which overlap the blocks 13 are secured to the web 23. A vapour sealing compound is applied on the moisture-impermeable side of the assembled blocks under the flanges of the section 24. The strip may be compressed before insertion and subsequently allowed to expand. Thus, the strip may be placed in an envelope, of e.g. polythene, and the whole highly compressed. The envelope is then sealed and after assembly with the parts of the structure the envelope is punctured to admit air thereto to allow expansion of the strip.
