Also in Division E1] A diving apparatus for carrying out operations on an oil or gas well at the sea bottom comprises a living compartment 17, a decompression compartment 18, a water-look compartment 19, a working compartment 1, sealable manholes between these compartments, means for controlling the gas pressure in the working compartment 1 and means for maintaining in the living compartment 17 a breathing mixture of oxygen and helium at a pressure higher than the water pressure at the operating depth. Means are provided for controlling the gas pressure in the decompression compartment and for supply or discharge of gas or water at a desired pressure to or from the water-look compartment. In the embodiment described, the living compartment 17, the decompression compartment 18, the water lock compartment 19 and a supervisors' compartment 16 are arranged in a hollow torus-shaped body 9 on the upper side of a bell-shaped element serving as the working compartment 1.
