摘要
PICT:1109563/C2/1 A new antibiotic, asperlin, effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, is produced by the cultivation of Aspergilus nidulans CM1 94,163, NRRL 3134, in an aqueous nutrient medium containing assimilable carbohydrate and nitrogen sources under submerge aerobic conditions and isolating the asperlin so produced. The asperlin produced may be isolated by filtering (or centrifuging) the medium and contacting the filtrate with a water-immiscible solvent for asperlin, e.g. ethyl acetate, and recovering asperlin from the solvent extract by evaporating to dryness or by adsorption chromatography on silicic acid, alumina or "Horisil" (Trade Mark) and elution with an organic solvent in which asperlin is soluble. Asperlin is a neutral substance soluble in ethyl acetate, amyl acetate, butyl acetate, 1-butanol, 2-butanol, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, chloroform, methylene chloride, MeOH, EtOH, benzene and toluene and relatively insoluble in water; it has a M.W. of 208 (determined by isothermal distillation in acetonitrile) and contains C, 57.10%; H, 6.03%; O, 36.20%, giving an approximate formula C10H12O5; it shows no absorption maxima in the U.V. range, has an optical rotation of FORM:1109563/C2/1 + 345 degrees (c, 0.9, 95% ethanol) and has the I.R. spectra in mineral oil as shown in Fig. 1. The antibiotic asperlin may be used alone or in combination with other antibacterial agents (unspecified) to prevent the growth and reduce the number of micro-organisms present in mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, plants and humans. Asperlin may also be used as a feed supplement to promote the growth of animals, e.g. mammals, birds, fish and reptiles.ALSO:The new antibiotic asperlin (see Division C2), effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, may be used as a disinfectant on dental and medical equipment and food utensils. Asperlin may also be used in preventing microorganism growth on plants.
