(A) 6alpha-hydroxy-10beta-carboxyl-3,5-cyclo-5alpha steroids of formula (I). (B) Intermediates (II) where R 1 = R2 = lower alkyl or alkynyl R3 = H, aliphatic or aromatic acyl or aralkyl R4 = =O, R5 = aliphatic or aromatic acyl or aralkyl. Cpds. (I) are intermediates for the prepn. of 19-nor-steroid derivs. which are valuable as sexual or anabolic hormones.
