A pneumatic feeding apparatus comprises a chute 1 opening into a pneumatic feed duct 6 which is provided upstream of the chute with a blower 7 and downstream with a second chute 8 leading into a textile machine 17. Air outlet apertures 9, 10 of the chute 8 are connected to the suction side of the blower 7. The bottom opening of first chute 1 is occupied by a pinned roll 5 above which are mounted two pairs of feed rolls 3, 4 whose drive is controlled by photo-electric cell 15 such as to ensure that a desired quantity of fibres is present in chute 8. A photo electric cell 2 controls the height of the column of fibres in chute 1. Photoelectric cell 15 may be replaced, by a pressure sensitive switch.
