Method for Removing Sand Cores and Pattern Shells from Core Boxes and Patterns

In a method of removing sand cores from core boxes and for stripping shells moulded on patterns, compressed air is applied through an opening 5 into a manifold 4 that is connected via vents 3 to the cores 2 to separate the core from the core box 1. Figs. 5-8 (not shown) show the method applied to a male pattern in which tubular fitted vents (6) are attached to the manifold 4. Vent traps (Figs. 4A and 4B, not shown) are inserted in the vents to retain the sand material of the cores &c. and allow air to pass therethrough, said traps being retained in the vents by burning, knurling, threading, providing serrations, or a retaining ring or screw. The sand mix of the cores &c. may be an air setting furfural resin mix or a CO 2 or sodiumsilicate mix.
