1,165,416. Locks. NATIONAL LOCK CO. 4 May, 1967 [23 Dec., 1966], No. 20747/67. Heading E2A. A handle 12 and escutcheon 13 assembly for a door comprises a member 42, rotatably mounted in a stepped bore 34 formed in the escutcheon, member 42 being secured to the handle for rotation therewith, a sliding bolt 52 located in a transverse slot formed in member 42, and a revolving barrel lock, mounted in the handle and operable to move the bolt 52 from the position .shown to a position in which it co-operates with the escutcheon to prevent rotation of the handle. The wall of bore 34 at its larger diameter and is formed with two bolt-receiving recesses (36) and (37), Fig. 5 (not shown), spaced at 90‹ round the bore periphery for locking the handle in its door-fastened and door-unfastened positions respectively. A third recess (38), which extends for more than 90‹ round the bore periphery, receives a projection (48), Fig. 8 (not shown), on member 42, for limiting rotary movement of the handle. An eccentrically mounted finger 27 on a rotary plug 18 on the pin tumbler lock shown co-operates with an oblique recess (54) and projection (55) formed in the bolt. Fig. 10 (not shown). Two such fingers may be provided and the lock may include a plate tumbler mechanism, Figs. 18 and 19 (not shown). The member 42 is connected, through a threaded bore 44 and a polygonally-sectioned end portion 43 to a door fastening mechanism, Fig. 2 (not shown), which comprises two oppositely reciprocable sliding bolts (64) and a turn bolt (66), the latter being attached to the member 42 at right-angles to the axis of rotation thereof. The bore 44 may not be threaded and may be of square or other polygonal cross-section for the reception of a correspondingly sectioned spindle. Registering tranverse holes in the member 42 and the spindle may be provided for a spindles-retaining pin. The spindle may be circular at its free end. The fastening mechanism for the door may comprise a turn bolt only, Figs. 12 and 16 (not shown).
