A cutting tool having an insert 37 removably secured to a holder such as a turning or boring tool shank or milling cutter body, has means for clamping the insert to the holder which comprises a screwed plug member 15 rotatable in a threaded bore 11 in the holder and a pin member 23 engageable with the plug member and projecting into a hole 39 in the insert the rotation of the plug member effecting canting or tilting of the pin member whereby the insert is moved transversely of the axis of the first member into engagement with abutments on the insert holder. The engaging portions of the members having part spherical faces which produce a cam action to effect tilting the pin member in relation to the plug member. Preferably two abutments are provided on the holder and against which the insert is clamped. Alternatively one of the abutments may be adjustable. The location of the first member relative to the abutments being such as to permit the insert to engage one of the abutments slightly before engaging the other.
