When making stemmed glassware the bowl portion 1 is made with a continuous curvature and the stem 5, formed integrally with the foot 4, is attached directly to it. As shown, Fig. 3, the bowl 1 is retained in a holder 2 by a die 6 and the stem and foot carried in a holder 3, are located at a predetermined distance b measured by a gauge 7 which is then removed. The top of the stem and the bottom of the bowl are heated by a double burner and the stem moved up into contact with the bowl to produce thickened ring 13 at the joint, Fig. 8. The unwanted upper portion of the bowl is then removed.
