1293967 Embedment anchors BOLT ASSOCIATES Inc 13 Feb 1970 [14 Feb 1969] 7171/70 Heading B7S [Also in Division E1] Embedment of a disc-like anchor 28 in subaqueous ground is effected by apparatus comprising a ram 14 engaging with a guide sleeve 26 on a tripod 24 and a socket 27 in the anchor, the ram being driven downwardly by reaction to periodic discharge of compressed air from an electrically-controlled device 18 within a waterfilled open-topped barrel 12. The anchor is temporarily attached to the ram by tabs 29, 29SP1/SP which when the anchor has reached the desired depth in the ground are broken by withdrawal of the ram with the aid of a cable 40. A mooring line 30 is secured to one side of the anchor so that after the ram has been withdrawn and the apparatus removed from the site the anchor can be turned into a position substantially perpendicular to the line by applying tension to the latter, Fig. 9 (not shown). Turning of the anchor may be facilitated by securing the line 30 thereto with chains 66, 66SP1/SP, 6611. The line 30 is temporarily secured to the barrel 12 by retaining means 34, which can be actuated to release the line when the anchor has been driven. The device 18 is attached to a rod 20 that is slidable in a bore within the ram so that with the aid of the cable 40 the device can be raised above the barrel for testing purposes. A stop 22 prevents the rod being separated from the ram and facilitates withdrawal of the latter. The device 18 may provide acoustic signals to ensure accurate siting of the apparatus (and the anchor thereon) while the apparatus is being lowered on the cable 40 from a surface marine-vessel, Fig. 6 (not shown).
