The novel compound 4-methyl-1-(5-nitrofurfurylideneamino) - 2 - imidazolidinone is prepared by reacting 1-amino-4-methyl-2-imidazolidinone with 5-nitrofurfural. Pharmaceutical compositions having antibacterial activity comprise the novel compound together with a pharmaceutical carrier. The compositions may be in the form of elixirs, dusts, suspensions, solution, ointments and tablets. The novel compound may also be included in a poultry feedstuff.
