Circular knitting machine pattern selector includes a hollow needle cylinder supporting on its inner wall a circular array of axially displaceable needles whose butts are engaged by needle plungers supported by the inner wall axially slidably and pivotably. Plungers have lower butts engaging rebates in upper parts of selector sinkers a number of which is arranged in a peripheral array spaced radially inwardly of the inner wall and pivoted at their lower on the inner wall of the needle cylinder. Sinkers are pivoted towards the inner wall under the influence of selector slides arranged in an axial flow and extending radially outwardly towards the inner wall. Slides engage a stop on the sinkers for pivoting them, whereby the plungers are pivoted such that their teeth at their upper ends can engage a control cam groove which has three axially effective zones. One zone is provided with resetting profile for resetting selected plungers and sinkers at the end of a knitting cycle, a further zone in which the teeth of the plungers are engaged in the cam groove and a final zone in which the plungers displace their associated needles axially into their resp. knitting positions.
