After impregnation of a non-woven fibrous Web A with latex liquid by passage, while supported on an endless wire screen belt B, below a perforated cylinder b partially immersed in bath liquid in a tank C, excess liquid is removed by passage of the web, while still supported on the belt, over a suction device comprising an even number of elongate suction tubes D (two as shown), each having a transverse suction slot d in contact with the belt and being connected at alternate ends to a common suction pump, a uniform suction effect thereby being ensured. The degree of suction at each slot may be separately controlled by a valve (dSP2/SP, Fig. 3). Excess liquid removed by said device is filtered and separated from any air contained therein and passed to a reservoir tank CSP2/SP which may be located inside or outside (as shown) the tank C. Liquid may be recirculated between the bath and the reservoir.
