1,173,299. Weighing apparatus. HOLLANDS & BLAIR Ltd. Nov. 22, 1967 [Dec. 6, 1966; (2)], Nos. 54559/66 and 54560/66. Heading G1W. In a platform scale in which a load platform is supported from a base by a lever system 13, 14, 17, 18 which is linked to a weight indicating dial, the levers are each constituted by an elongated sheet metal member and are each pivotally mounted at one end on a support member which is mounted on an upstanding peripheral wall 12 of the base. The support members may each comprise a U- shaped member which provides a knife edge pivot and which is secured either to a portion 33 of the wall bounded by horizontally extending flanges 31, 31a limiting lateral movement of the associated lever or to an aperture in the peripheral wall in which aperture a knife edge bearing on the associated lever is located, the aperture being circular or of rectangular shape. The support members alternatively may each comprise a flat plate having slots Fig. 10 (not shown) or a hooked end Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) for securement to the peripheral wall and having a slot in which the associated lever is pivotally mounted, a slot being also provided, if necessary, in the peripheral wall. In further arrangements each member is a flanged plate Figs. 7 and 9 (not shown) provided with a slot in which the associated lever is pivotally mounted, the lever being then located within the confines of the peripheral wall. The platform and base may be of sheet metal and a plate 15 may be provided to connect two of the levers 13, 14 to one end of a tension spring 16, the other end of which is secured to a pillar extending from the base. A rack and pinion arrangement may be provided for transmitting movement of the levers caused by a load on the platform to the weight indicating dial.
