An earth-grading machine has a groundsupported, mobile frame 22 beneath which are supported, to lie transverse to the direction of advance of the frame in a rearwardly defined order, an elongated rotary cutter 48, a mouldboard 68, a rotary screw conveyer 66 and optionally a further mouldboard 70. The cutter 48 has a series of digger blades arranged in a helix extending between the helical convolutions of a conveyer scroll that together with the blades is mounted on a rotor to cause earth upstanding from a grade level to be shred off. Earth then in excess of that for a level fill to the grade level by the first mould board is caused by the mouldboard and the cutter to be moved to the side of the frame. This excess earth is deflected into the path of the conveyer 66 to be respread thereby to allow of further improvement of the grade level by the conveyer 66 and the second mouldboard. The cutter, conveyer and mouldboards can be adjusted upwards and downwards with respect to the frame either manually or automatically in response to the positions of sensors on the frame with a guide line disposed parallel to the desired grade level.
