Snapper Mechanism for a Corn Harvester or the like

A corn harvester has a plurality of upwardly sloped slots 47 into which the corn stalks are moved by chains 45 and is characterized by a pair of wheels 58 arranged beneath the slot to present a forwardly facing bite and thus to engage the stalks and move them downwardly into an upwardly facing bite formed between the wheels and a roller 62. The roller pulls the stalks downwardly to detach the cobs by engagement with the sides of the slots 47. The wheels 58 may have co-operating teeth 60 and are driven by gears 56 on either side of the roller 62. In an embodiment the wheels have roughened surfaces instead of the teeth 60 and are driven through a shaft which may be flexible. In a further embodiment the wheels have rubber tyres which engage the roller. The distances between the stalk receiving slots are altered by adjustment of the separate units 15 along bar 18.
