1,209,276. Colour television tubes. THOMSON-CSF. 27 Jan. 1969 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 4428/69. Heading H1D. In a colour television tube provided with a grid of parallel wires sealed into the joint between the faceplate and the cone, vibration of these wires is damped by two auxiliary wires threaded through the grid wires near each end of the grid outside the scanned area. The auxiliary wires may be of gold, silver, copper or their alloys, or of stainless steel, and may have a diameter of some tens of microns; alternatively they may be of aluminium about 50 microns in diameter. In manufacture the even numbered grid wires may be wound on a frame (Fig. 4, not shown), the auxiliary wires stretched across them and secured to flanges of the frame, and the odd-numbered grid wires wound on, after which a frame is secured to the grid wires. The auxiliary wires may be held in position only by the weaving, or in addition they may be welded or enamelled to the outer grid wires.
