Apparatus for chromatographic analysis of mixtures of amino-acids comprises small column 17 (for separating basic acids) and large column 11 (for separating acidic and neutral acids), the outlets of the columns being connected to common distributor 27 which connects the columns alternately and in turn through line 30 to an evaluation device or through line 31 to waste, pumps 18, 10 connected to the inlets of the respective columns, eluent container 19 connected to the inlet of pump 18 and one or more eluent containers 12-15 connectable singly to the inlet of pump 10, and dosing devices 20, 16 connectable either upstream (as shown) or downstream of the respective pumps 18, 10. The multiport distributor 7 shown may be replaced by two or more two-way distributors in series (Fig. 3 not shown). Operation of distributors 7, 21 and 27 may be controlled by a programming device.
