A socket contact has a rectangular cross-section divided into four tongues of L-shaped section by three axial slots 2 and an open seam 3 which is formed when the socket is rolled from sheet metal. Dimples 5 on the longer limbs 4 of the tongues engage an inserted flat contact tab. A crimping section 8 extends axially, or alternatively is bent perpendicularly, of the socket. Extensions 7 of the upper longer limbs 4 close the rear of the socket, which may be moulded in an insulating block.
