Velvet shuttleless loom

Two insertion needles are used in a shuttleless loom for velvet weaving, the needles being mounted on a horizontal arm driven in a light curve by an epicycloid drive of sum wheel, planet wheels and a flywheel. This gives a synchronised weft operation at high speeds, with a correction for any vertical needle droop.
