1,218,466. Active-halogen containing complexes of 2 - aryl - #SP2/SP - oxazolines. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. 17 May, 1968 [18 May, 1967], No. 23608/68. Heading C2C. Complex compounds of general formula [RH]SP(+)/SP[XYZ]SP(-)/SP in which R denotes one or two 2 - aryl (or chloroaryl) - #SP2/SP - oxazoline rings the term "aryl" including "alkaryl", X and Y are Cl, Br or I and Z is Br or I, are prepared by reacting a hydrohalide of a 2 - aryl (or chloroaryl) - #SP2/SP - oxazoline with a halogenating agent such as Br 2 , I 2 , an interhalogen compound XY or an adduct of these with a 2 - aryl (or chloroaryl) - #SP2/SP - oxazoline, if desired in solution, and at a temperature of -10‹ to 100‹ C. The 2-aryl substituent may be phenyl, o-, m- or p-tolyl, m- or p-chlorophenyl, α- or #-naphthyl, biphenylyl or p - tert - butylphenyl. The compounds may also be prepared from rearrangement products of 2 - aryl (or chloroaryl) - #SP2/SP - oxazoline hydrohalides such as N-(#-haloethyl) arylamides. The compounds with two 2-aryl (or chloroaryl). #SP2/SP - oxazoline rings may also be prepared by first preparing the compound having one ring and then reacting this with another mole of 2 - aryl (or chloroaryl) - #SP2/SP - oxazoline. The compounds may be used as pesticides, disinfectants or mild halogenating agents.
