1,236,365. Comminuting apparatus. LINDE A.G. 29 April, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 21751/69. Heading B2A. Granular or lumpy material e.g. thermoplastic synthetic resin material or rubber is embuttled by cooling in a vertical cooling channel 2 through which it is fed downwardly to a comminuting device 1. A recirculating system passes cooling gas upwardly through the cooling channel 2. As described, material is crushed at 8 and fed to a pin mill 1, the powder being discharged into a container 3. Cooling gas is supplied via a perforated tube 11, and recirculated via a second perforated tube 14 a filter 19 and fan 20 and a serpentine pipe 21. A second embodiment employs a cooling liquefied gas spray, Fig. 2 (not shown). The conveying gas leaving the pin mill 1 is filtered in a bag filter 41 whose container 43 is cooled by a coiled pipe 47. The shaft of the pin mill is sealed by gas passing through a line 53. There may be a known automatic temperature regulating system.
