Vulcanisation of S-vulcanisable rubber mixtures contg. natural and/or synthetic rubber e.g. SBR, BAN, polyisoprene (except EPDM terpolymers); sulphur and/or sulphur donors; and opt. other additives, by heating to vulcanisation temp. is effected in presence of a vulcanisation accelerator combination comprising a diradicaldithiophosphate of formula below e.g. Zn-di-n-butyldithiophospahte, (where R is (the same or different) linear or branched (cyclo) alkyl or (substd.) aryl; Z is a multivalent cation, a primary, secondary, tertiary or mixed (opt. substd.) aromatic or heterocyclic amine; and X is an integer corresponding to the valency of Z) and at least one other accelerator (such as 2-mercapto-benzothiazole). Vulcanisation improves heat-ageing characteristics and is economical.
