Aqueous dispersions of starch esters - with high solids content from aromatic monocarboxylic acids

Stable aq. starch ester dispersions with high solids content, suitable as adhesive and for coating with good adhesion to glass, metal ceramics, giving clear, hard surfaces, are obtained by esterifying any suitable starch, esp. maizes, with an aromatic monocarboxylic acid, pref. benzoic acid, and suspending the purified ester in water using mixers with high shear forces. Esterification is carried out to pref. 0.15-0.30.
