Polymers of 5-(3-perfluoroalkyl 1,2,4-oxa-diazolyl) alkenes

These are prepared by (co)polymerising monomers of formula: where m = 1-18, R1 is -CH=CH2 or -C(CH3)=CH2 and R2 is an ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon residue derived from fumaric, maleic citraconic, mesaconic or itaconic acid. Alkyl vinyl ethers are preferred comonomers. Certain intermediates in the preparation of I, of formula (CmF2m+1-C=N-O-CO)-2 R2, are new compounds.The polymers confer oil- and water-repellency on textiles, leather, paper, wood, brickwork, metals, synthetics, glass and painted surfaces. The dye receptivity of synthetic polymers, especially of polyolefines, is improved by addition of the polymers
