A spinning-top comprises an axial rotatable shaft 11 with a casing 16 encompassing a portion of the shaft length and supporting the shaft for rotation in a vertical position, a rotor or flywheel 18 on the shaft, and a bearing 12 on the shaft with the outer race engaged by the casing; also a "friction roller" 19 on a portion of the shaft which projects outside the casing, so that by successive brisk rolling movements of the roller the shaft and rotor may be set in motion. The top may then be stood on a tip 20 made of metal or a synthetic polymer material disposed on the roller or on a spindle 25 at the opposite end of the shaft.
