[Also in Division H3] A. circuit for energizing an inductor, e.g. a clutch winding, includes in series with the winding a capacitor shunted by a resistor, the capacitor charging, upon switching on, to provide enhanced initial current and means for discharging the capacitor through the inductor to speed the switch-off. The discharge path may be a resistor (R9) connected across the inductor and R.C. combination (Fig. 1, not shown) or, as in Fig. 2, a transistor. On switching on, the clutch K is energized through T1, R3 and C1 and on switching off T1 is off and T2 on so that C1 discharges through K, R1 and T2, part of the current being by-passed through R2.
