INTERCHANGEABLE CROP-HARVESTING HEADER FOR USE WITH A PULL-TYPE OR SELF-PROPELLED MACHINE FRAME

A crop-harvesting header including drive means for the harvesting apparatus is provided with mounting means so that it is interchangeable between a pull-type machine (Fig. 2) and a self-propelled machine (Fig. 1) and is able to move vertically. The drive means in the header includes a drive shaft 72a (Fig. 7, wherein the header is connected to the pulled machine) provided with readily disconnectable engagement means, e.g. bevel gearbox 176 which ultimately connects to the p.t.o. of the pulling vehicle via shaft 182 and held in readily removable shaft support bearings 172, 174, 152, 144. For use in a self-propelled machine the gearbox and shaft 72a are removed and replaced by a different shaft (72 Fig. 1) with a splined end to which a detachable universal-type yoke is connected which is connected itself to the power drive of the' machine. The mounting means comprise pairs of mounting links, e.g. 18, 20 (Fig. 1) attachable between lugs on the header and on the associated machine frame and counter-balancing springs 28, 210. The suspension means S, S' raises the header by means of cylinders CY, CY' connected to the machine frames; the self-propelled machine incorporates a triangular suspension system 20, 40, 42 and the pull-type machine incorporates a bell-type crank 212 and wheel and header frames 202 these arrangements allowing the header to rise vertically. The header H has a reel R, conditioning rollers 110, 112 adjustable relative to each other, and a cutter bar 86, these being driven from the shaft 72 or 72a by means of rotary drives (sprockets and pulleys) keyed to the shaft. Behind the machines windrow- or swathforming means W, W' are mounted.
